Natural sagittal spino-pelvic alignment in boys and girls before, at and after adolescent peak height velocity

چکیده
Objective One of the unexplained, but well known, characteristics of AIS is that girls are far more often affected than boys and the initiation and progression of the deformity normally occurs around the adolescent growth spurt. From previous studies it can be inferred that, due to biomechanical forces that act on posteriorly inclined spinal segments, certain sagittal spinal profiles are more prone to develop a spinal deformity than others. The aim of this natural history study was to quantify sagittal spinopelvic alignment and orientation in space of each individual vertebra in normal boys and girls in the beginning, the peak and at the end of pubertal growth.

Normal Age-Adjusted Sagittal Spinal Alignment Is Achieved with Surgical Correction in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Study Design Retrospective analysis. Purpose Our hypothesis is that the surgical correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) maintains normal sagittal alignment as compared to age-matched normative adolescent population. Overview of Literature Sagittal spino-pelvic alignment in AIS has been reported, however, whether corrective spinal fusion surgery re-establishes normal alignment r...
متن کاملAnalysis of the adolescent growth spurt using smoothing spline functions.
Height growth velocity curves between 4.5 and 17.75 years were estimated, using smoothing spline functions, for 112 boys and 110 girls from the Zurich Longitudinal Study (1955--1976). Parameters characterizing the growth process, such as peak height velocity and age at peak height velocity, were calculated directly from the estimated curves. The variability of parameters describing the adolesce...
متن کاملEstimating Body Composition in Adolescent Sprint Athletes: Comparison of Different Methods in a 3 Years Longitudinal Design
A recommended field method to assess body composition in adolescent sprint athletes is currently lacking. Existing methods developed for non-athletic adolescents were not longitudinally validated and do not take maturation status into account. This longitudinal study compared two field methods, i.e., a Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA) and a skinfold based equation, with underwater densitometry to t...
متن کاملComparison of radiological spino-pelvic sagittal parameters in skiers and non-athletes
Background: The purpose of the present study is to compare the radiological parameters of the spino-pelvic sagittal alignment in young elite skiers and non-athletes of a similar age. Methods: The sample group (n = 102) consisted of elite Alpine and Mogul skiers (n = 75) and a non-athletic population (n = 27), mean age for both groups was 17.7 (±1.4) years (skiers mean age 18.3 SD 1.1 and contro...
متن کاملModified Maturity Offset Prediction Equations: Validation in Independent Longitudinal Samples of Boys and Girls
BACKGROUND Predicted maturity offset and age at peak height velocity are increasingly used with youth athletes, although validation studies of the equations indicated major limitations. The equations have since been modified and simplified. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to validate the new maturity offset prediction equations in independent longitudinal samples of boys and girls. ...
